Kayaking tour on San Juan Islands

Weather of San Juan Islands usually stays mild all year round. Especially if you plan a visit between June and September you’ll find the warmest weather, with least amount of rain, and ideally the best time for whale watching and kayaking tours.

During the summer months it is also the best time to find bioluminescence in the water. The bioluminescence is due to a microorganism in the water called Noctiluca that emits a sparking green light. According to Crystal Seas, you will need several things during your kayaking trip. To keep yourself as well as your personal items dry, it is recommended that you bring a dry bag for clothing, a dry bag for camera gear, a pair of waterproof pants, a rain jacket, a pair of water shoes, paddling gloves, and a waterproof case for your phone.

Make sure that you pack a variety of layers of clothing by keeping outdoor conditions in mind. Be sure to pack base layer top and bottoms, a pair of fleece-lined leggings, a quick-dry hoodie, a long-sleeved fleece, and moisture-wicking socks and underwear. Since you will be exposed to extreme conditions, it is advised that you bring along both bug spray and sunscreen.

The best part is that you can also enjoy the orca whales during your kayaking trip. Therefore, make sure to bring along a pair of binoculars and camera, so that you don’t miss the perfect opportunity of capturing the mesmerizing beauty of the island.
